A message from Jonathan Edmondson:
I'm sure you'll all wish to join me in congratulating our former PhD
student, Douglas Hunter, on the recent announcement that he has won
Canada's Distinguished Dissertation Award in the Fine
Arts/Humanities/Social Sciences category from the Canadian Association
of Graduate Studies/Association canadienne pour les études supérieures.
He is the first York PhD student to win this award.
As you know, Doug worked with Carolyn Podruchny on his dissertation,
“Stone of Power,” a study of how North America's indigenous peoples have
been portrayed over the years.
You can take a look at the award-winning dissertation at
Doug's award was featured in this morning Y-File: see
On behalf of the entire Department, Doug, we would like to congratulate
you in the warmest possible terms on this great achievement."
